Myanmar: Technical assistance to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy
The purpose of the program is through a set of cooperation areas and associated components to strengthen the capacity in the Myanmar Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MOEE) to develop renewable energy, in particularly hydropower in a transparent an efficient way taken environmental and social issues into consideration at an international acceptable level. This program funded by the Norwegian Embassy in Yangon.

Contract Value/ Duration:
- Phase I (2014-2019): NOK 123,7 millions (USD 13 mill), whereas 11 mill NOK for Bawgata Hydro Power Plant Feasibility studies
- Phase II (2019 -2023) NOK 85,9 millions (USD 9 millions)
Activities
The current Technical Assistance Program between MOEE and NVE has been ongoing since 2014 with various activities in a comprehensive program covering the following technical cooperation areas:
- Hydropower Development
- Environmental and Social Management
- Regulatory Support
- Hydrology
- Capacity Building
MOEE is the main focal point for the Technical Assistance Program with NVE. In addition will two departments outside MOEE be involved for CA4 Hydrology:
i) Department of Metrology and Hydrology (DMH) under Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC)
ii) Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department (IWUMD) under Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) .

NVE has a residential advisor in place in the capitol city, Nay Pyi Taw, and also a local assistant working at the NVE office in the premises of MOEE.
